In a Solar Return, among other things, one of the most important factors is the conjunction of a planet with the angle of the same return.
It is enough to combine the pure symbolism of the planet and the traditional meaning of the house involved. For example, if you find Saturn on an angle of a Solar Return, it could indicate a depressing year, burdens, heavy responsibilities, bereavement etc… Uranus in conjunction with the II house of the return (money)–> a year of monetary fluctuations, ups and downs. It is also convenient to combine returns with other predictive techniques.
The old master Jean-Baptiste Morin points out in book 23 of his Astrologia Gallica that in a revolution, nothing can be predicted—at least, nothing significant—unless it is indicated in the radix or by other directions at the time of the revolution.
There is a basic rule that goes for all cyclic charts in that they only become operative when cast for the location the person is at when the event takes place.

Here are two examples that show clearly how this technique works. In both cases, both charts have a Venus/Jupiter conjunction (two benefics) on an angle (Midheaven), Venus ruling unions of all kinds surely indicates a benefic change in ones social status (Midheaven) or a very advantageous union with economical benefits (Jacqueline’s case).
These examples were very clear, and we can be very confident in making a prediction before the fact. The planets don’t have to be in conjunction, a similar variation would be having Venus on the Ascendant of the return. (take the whole return and other directions into consideration not just one aspect)
