Let us compare the horoscopes of two professional poker players, so that we can gauge the success each one of them is capable of achieving in their field.
The main houses to consider are the AS/MC. The II/VIII axis (finance) and the V house (gambling).

Main configurations for Daniel Negreanu:
-The heavily aspected V house.
-PL is at the apex of a kite-head exactly on the II house (activates the importance of finances in his life).
-Cancer stellium. MON 60° AS (all contribute to his sensitivity in guessing his opponents hand, reading other people).
The main element to consider here is the Saturn (malefic) in a damaged cosmic condition (Cancer) opposing the V house (gambling). By itself it would cause some serious problems to everything related to that house (gambling, investments, business ventures, children), and even more so if other malefic planets intervene. But the reason why the malice has been greatly reduced is because Saturn (also the ruler of the V) is asphyxiated by benefic asepcts: it is in conjunction with Venus in a good cosmic state and in trine to Jupiter. Venus in CAN is opposing the V house (positive configuration) and Jupiter in a good cosmic condition is sextile the V house.
The second horoscope I want to look at is that of Erick Lindgren.

Main configurations for Erick Lindgren:
-PL at the apex of a kite-head in the VIII house.
-MAR 0 VIII. SAT in LEO 180° AS.
-MAR 90° V Orb: 3°.
-MON in PIS in I and NEP in X (sensitivity, etc…).
The main issue here is the exact conjunction of MAR with the VIII house (180° II) and the square to the V house (Orb: 3°). Saturn in a damaged cosmic condition is opposing the AS with an orb of 3°, which justifies, when combined with other configurations, severe financial loss. The ruler of the V, Mercury, is in square to Neptune.
The resolution to these difficult aspects is the opposition of JUP to the MC. Jupiter is in trine to MAR on the II/VIII axis and to the AS. The orbs of the trines are too wide and Jupiter, by itself, is incapable of overthrowing those negative configurations. Lindgren finds himself with debt up to his eye-balls and is incapable of paying back his debtors.
One final example, not related to poker, but to a person who was at the hands of a public health care scandal: Jean-Claude Mas, whose faulty breast implants caused a global health scare, affecting about 300,000 women in 65 countries. In his horoscope, Saturn is in a damaged cosmic condition exactly on the MC and receives two sqaures from malefic planets: Mars and Pluto.
